Multi platinum selling Nu Metal band Korn have signed to Roadrunner Records.
The band will release their next album Korn III – Remember Who You Are through Roadrunner this summer, it has been produced by Ross Robinson who produced the bands first two albums.
“Roadrunner Records/Loud & Proud Records is pleased to announce the signing of Meat Loaf to the label! Meat Loaf has been a towering monument on the musical landscape for the past 35 years and his new deal with Roadrunner/Loud & Proud will allow him to retain his post as the pre-eminent voice in rock music and beyond.”
Meat Loaf will release his new album Hang Cool Teddy Bear Will be released later this year.
Roadrunner records have teamed up with Sony and Playstation to release this EP of songs from Roadrunner artist, paying tribute to the game.
First up is Killswitch Engage with My Obsession. This is a standard Killswitch song, they’re not breaking new barriers, but it’s still a great song, and if you are a fan, you will definitely love this track. I know a lot of people were disappointed with the last KsE record, and this is them back on top form, it’s much better than most of the tracks on the self titled album.
Next is Trivium with Shattering the Skies Above. On this track the band return to the style of their earlier albums, Ascendancy in particular. At first, I didn’t really like this track, as I wasn’t a big fan of Ascendancy, but after a few plays it really did grow on me. It has a fantastic chorus and the guitars are nice and heavy, with a great solo.
Dream Theater rarely disappoint on record, especially on an instrumental, Raw Dog is no exception. This is a fantastic metal track with great riffs and excellent musicianship, but this is expected from some of the greatest musicians to walk the planet.
This Is Madness by Taking Dawn is an ode to 300, with the lyrics borrowing from lines from the movie: “This is Spartaaaaa!” and such. even though this song has brilliant subject matter, it does sound a little raw compared to the rest of the tracks on this EP, it sounds more like a demo. It is more “metal” than any of the tracks on their album however and is still a great song.
Opeth offer a break from all the heaviness with their track The Throat Of Winter. It’s a more acoustic affair, but it somehow still fits in with the rest of the EP. This is a beautiful track, and a great addition to Opeth’s stunning back catalogue.
The EP ends with The End by Mutiny Within, which is another great track and a superb way to finish a superb EP. This song would fit in perfectly with Mutiny Within’s début album, it has great musicianship and brilliant vocals, plus a chorus to die for.
In all, this is a great EP, the only downside is that its only 30 minutes long!
9.5/10
The rest of the bands have been announced for the God Of war EP, it will be released by RoadRunner, so it is all RoadRunner artists.
Killswitch Engage, Opeth and Taking Dawn will be featured aswell as already confirmed Trivium and Dream Theater.
Slash has signed with RoadRunner Records to release his forthcoming solo album, which is due early 2010.
Rob Zombie has signed with RoadRunner Records, and will release Hellbilly Deluxe 2 through the Louad & Proud Imprint.
“It certainly wasn’t an easy decision to make after all this time, but it had to be done, I love this new record and wanted to surround myself with an excited new group of people who can reignite my enthusiasm for working within a hard rock record label. Roadrunner seems to be the perfect place.”
Dave has made another post on The official Megadeth forums, in response to someone wanting to boycott RoadRunner, Dave wrote:
“boycotting RR would be hurting the bands.
the only way to do this is to let me fight my own battles, but to watch and ask yourself, if they did this to dave, what would they do to me?”
so to any insane Megadeth fan that wanted to boycott RoadRunner (me), don’t.
But in my personal honest opinion, i dont think RoadRunner is very good at promotion when it comes to older bands, and Dave and Megadeth got the worst of it. Roadrunner seem to be only able to promote homegrown talents. (Trivium, Machine Head, etc)
Good luck to Dave, hopefully this doesn’t put him off releasing anymore albums.
Megadeth main man and all around legend Dave Mustaine (Hell yeah I’m a fanboy) is not very happy at RoudRunner right now, and thats putting it lightly.
Through the official Megadeth.com forums, Dave posted this:
“Unbelievable
Droogies!
I don’t know what to say.
How a record company could be presented with a Worldwide critically acclaimed record, and that they can let it plummet down the charts in just four weeks into the hundreds, is inexplicable.
I knew I shouldn’t have done this. Why didn’t I trust myself?
I regret a lot of things in my life, but this is the most regretable.
A very disgusted Megaman. ”
he then followed it up with this:
Lydverket interview
Droogies!
These people are scum.
Don’t listen to their interviews, don’t buy their shit magazine, don’t go to their pathetic garbage website.
And stand by because as soon as i see that interviewer again, i am going to put him in a hospital.
That is a promise. I will find him too.
Again, set up by Roadrunner and left hanging by the label.
Too bad the promo person was not there like i asked so this shit wouldn’t happen.
Thanks for nothing RR,
Grrrrrr!”
The second is also in relation to the following interview with Norway’s Lydverket magazine. Before the interview, the Norwegian reported was told that Metallica was a forbidden subject… The interview follows:
On getting kicked out of METALLICA for allegedly drinking too much:
Mustaine: “I was so hurt by the way that happened. I said, What?! No second chance, no warning? C’mon, we all drink. C’mon.’ And [they were like], ‘No, that’s it. You’re gone.’ And I was like, ‘Alright.'”
On the altercation with METALLICA frontman James Hetfield that led to Mustaine being fired from the band:
Mustaine: “He kicked my dog.
“I was selling pot. When I would go play in concert, people knew that my pot was sitting in my apartment just saying, ‘Go ahead and keep me company.’ So I was broken in on. People stole everything that I had; all my stash. And I figured, screw this. I’m gonna get some dogs to stay in the apartment when I leave. So I got two dogs and I took one of them up to a rehearsal one time and she put her paws up on Ron’s [McGovney, METALLICA’s then-bassist] car. And James kicked it right in the side. And I was like, ‘What did you do?’ [And I was like] ‘It’s a dog, it’s what they do. You don’t kick animals.’ So we went into the house, and we started arguing some more. And I ended up punching him in the face and I think that was the root of why I lost my job.
“I hated that. I didn’t wanna hit him. I cared a lot about James; I really liked him. I still like him. I don’t like Lars [Ulrich, METALLICA drummer], but I like James.”
On being invited to attend METALLICA’s Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame induction in April, but not to get inducted along with his former bandmates:
Mustaine: “I think someone would have to be a complete fool to think I was gonna go there and sit in the audience and watch them be inducted into the Hall Of Fame. It was nice that Lars that invited me, but any of the public that thinks I was gonna go… But what are you — stupid?! I’m proud of them, I wish them well, but what do I have to do?! That’s masochism.”
On his state of mind in 2009:
Mustaine: “When I became a Christian, everyone thought that I was gonna become a pussy. Now, evidently, it backfired.
“Lately, I started really getting into trying to better myself — really, really digging into my past and working with counselors and therapists to really try and free myself of the stuff that holds me back as an artist so that I can be a better artist and an entertainer.”
“Honestly, this is one on my finest hours, because spiritually I am at peace so much. I have no problems with anybody. What good is it gonna do for me to sit there and piss and moan about how much excess there was in my life?! There was, there ain’t anymore.”
So as you can see, the reporter clearly broke the rule, so Dave is justified in his anger at Lydverket.
Thanks to Blabbermouth, net for the interview
