The Dillinger Escape Plan – Glasgow Garage – 29/10/10

The Dillinger Escape plan were greeted in Glasgow to the usual beautiful Scottish weather, yes, it was pouring with rain. But that didn’t stop them, and the support act The Ocean from putting on a hell of a show.

Openers The Ocean arrived on stage to a lukewarm reception, that soon changed, as vocalist Loïc Rossetti was adamant in winning the band over some new Scottish fans by getting right in the face of the crown and basically forcing them to get into it.

And it worked, as by the end of the bands short set the majority of the crowd seemed to be really enjoying themselves.

The band were brilliant, and played through every song with so much passion and energy. Sadly there was no material from Anthropocentric, but the set was made up of mostly Heliocentric songs, which sounded even better live.

When The Dillinger Escape Plan hit the stage, however, it was an entirely different matter. There was no need to win over the crowd, as every person in the room was going insane.

Opening with the fantastic Farewell, Mona Lisa, the band played a collection of old favourites as well as songs from Option Paralysis. The rabid Glasgow crowd loved every second of it. My personal highlight was a perfect rendition of new song Widower.

DEP are a band you have to see live, one of the most brutal and energetic bands you will see, yet they can still slow it down and play a perfect pop song like Black Bubblegum. If this band play near you, do not miss it.

  1. I’m not a huge Dillinger fan, but I’ve only heard part of one album. I need to hear more to make a better judgement.
